It's Cheat Day Holidays!

A few days before the most anticipated holiday dinner for 2012, I was having difficulties of scheduling and finding the perfect place to where it will take place. I've tried giving in to their requests: menus like lamb chops, foie gras, steak etc., and if it is within our preferred budget... which is in mid-range for us working yuppies.

And then there's the choice of the restaurant. The first three choices that I gave them have passed their given requirement were Myron's Place, Lusso's and Felix, all in Greenbelt 5. But then three days before the dinner, we've chosen Marciano's in Greenbelt 3. 




There are a lot of mirrors in Marciano's. You'll probably catch yourself checking yourself out (or perhaps another good-looking diner). The decors and furniture are elegant. The curtains and the chandeliers add a great touch to the interiors, really classy. The glitz and glamour of Hollywood is obviously within every corner of this establishment. Maybe it's because one of the owners is Marvin Agustin, and just the theme on the menu is also inspired by New York/Hollywood movies and characters.

And the food... The food will leave you wanting to sample some more. We've ordered their sets, which is enough for five people. We ordered two sets actually. And then some.

We had a blast! And it showed in every smile and giggles we let out during and after the dinner. Just another night to remember.

Simply Singaporean La

All things considered, high cost living in Singapore is not an easy thing to deal with. And with that in mind, I tried to find affordable and decent food to ease my hunger every time I'm on a stroll or simply just enjoying SG. Hawker foods are fine but not every corner are filled with them. Fast food, on the other hand, are easier to find than hawker stalls. But with a budget of S$8 for a meal, usually a burger meal, you can get through to the next meal.

 

Best tip: eat heavy whenever you plan to go out. Usually, it's breakfast because I'd like to start my day early.

It's also best to consider your body clock because it changes. If my usual meal time is at 7 a.m., 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., in here it's 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. It's quite a change, really, and I adjusted pretty well. For a month, that is.

And then cooking comes in. I haven't done so much cooking and baking other than cooking rice and frying eggs but here, I've gotten the opportunity to do so. Cupboard is full of dry ingredients for baking so I tried my hand on it. My first time to do it and I chose to do chocolate cake.



I'd say it's successful based on my niece and nephews' reaction when they tasted it. I wouldn't say the same on my second attempt, though. It's baked macaroons. And it's overbaked!



I also tried cooking drunken chicken in red wine sauce. Easy to do and it smelled really good. Who says I can't drink while cooking?


 Several days after the F1, I went back to Double Bay Restaurant. Closing time so I've waited for my cousin. We ate mushroom noodles before we head home.




Once in a while, we tried restos that are within the vicinity, like Pastamania. It's just located at the mall near the condo.

Singaporean Food Trip at Best

Being in Singapore for a month, I felt bored at times. All household chores, all done after just pushing a button or two. There are days when I would be just in front of my computer for just a whole day without really doing anything. Well, other than running errands here and there but that's just it. The cost of lifestyle here is high, especially the food. If you are to eat in a restaurant or in the fast food, at S$8 you will have a decent burger sandwich meal.

But then I received an unexpected text from a friend of mine who works at Marina Bay Casino. She's having her day off and she wants us to meet so I got up fast and prepare myself, check my wallet for some bills, my e-z link, set up the house security alarm and then off I go.

The rendezvous: Ion Orchard. I'm not that familiar with the place so we communicated thru text. A little meet-and-greet and then me and Irish went off for a stroll since we haven't decided yet what to do or where to go. It's nearly 4 p.m.

By this time we're getting hungry. Irish like some Japanese food so we settled for a buffet dinner. Where? At Tarafuku. And we have to wait in line because it's dinner time.


 The buffet costs S$30 per person. So we eat as much as we can as possible. Too Japanese, too much sushi but we managed.

We loved the food. And as much as we liked to try the noodle dishes, we're full. The place is crowded and yet there's not much noise. Busy eating. The place's interior is okay too.




So we eat as much as we can as possible. Too Japanese, too much sushi but we managed.






See how full and satisfied we are? One of the best buffet dinner.

Singapore Gastronomy and The F1 Race

It's been a while since I posted my food adventures. Well, no worries. Here I am now. No more skipping deadlines. 

Spending a month in Singapore made me realize that every person's palate changed based on the food culture. It's like the saying, "when in Rome..."

Since it's Formula One Grand Prix weekend, I haven't even made my decision on where to eat when I starve. Truth is, inside the F1 Village, food is a pricy commodity. Good thing is, just outside Gate 4 is the Raffles Hotel. And opposite the hotel is Double Bay Restaurant. Food price here is mid-range so I checked the place. Well, my cousin is the manager here so there's some perks that comes with it.



Singapore Sling

The experience will never be completed until you've tasted Singapore Sling. At least, that's what they say. And voila, before I even ordered my main course, the sling is here, on the house. I told you, the perks. But the sling at one in the afternoon, it kicks!

The grilled seafood set. Smokiness of the lobster and the fish topped with white wine sauce. Not what I expected but then it's fine dining. what would you expect?


Muddy Cherry Popper

The muddy cherry popper. Very appetizing to look at and once you take a bite, it's very soft and melts in your mouth as fast as you could chew it. It's heavenly!
 
 

And then I'm back at the F1 Village for the car exhibit, the street performers, the concert, the night race...
