Eat. Pray. Eat.

Holy Week, the longest holiday being celebrated everywhere. Most of us celebrate the week either staying at home or going trips out of town or out of country. Me, after four years of spending the Holy Week by trips out of town with friends, decided to just take it easy and be with my family.

Reading pasyon with the elders on Maundy Thursday, attending the traditional procession on Black Friday and the first morning mass on Easter Sunday followed by Pagdagit and Pagbati are just some of the things I missed. And most importantly, home-cooked foods!

Daing na Bangus
Grilled fish or meat, always on the menu eveytime I'm at home. And everyone in the family loves to eat boodle style.

Going Crazy For Food at Krazy Garlik

Friday. 6:30 p.m. Here I am, still at the office doing overtime work. It's dinnertime and I haven't decided where and what will I have for dinner. Then there's a text. "Let's go." It's Bel, texting me and Angel that the supposedly postponed dinner tonight is still on.

7:00 p.m. Greenbelt 5. At last, we've decided as to where we'll be having our dinner: Krazy Garlik. Since all the tables are occupied, we were guided by the staff on an open-air settee. It's so relaxing plus it's very comfortable sitting on the sofas while waiting for the food.

Penne Arribiatta is a spicy dish of pasta.
It literally translates as "angry pasta."

Food is delicious and the place is relaxing. Although, budget-wise, it is not for those on a tight budget. P400 a person and you can have a decent meal.

Next time, I'll try the Seafood Fettucine a la Diablo and Nautilus Salad. But for now, I'll settle for what is on the table because I'm starving. Bon appetit!

Hanging Out at Toast Box

There is a place in Greenbelt making waves not just because of the relaxing ambiance but also of the superb toast they're offering. It's Toast Box, the Singaporean deli great for its kaya toast and sandwiches.

Since I've tasted their kaya toast, I started hanging out there more, too bad they still didn't have wi-fi. But that's okay since I'm coming back for the toast, not for anything else.

Kaya is a jam flavored by pandan leaf
and sweetened with sugar,
made from coconut milk and chicken eggs

Flosss sandwich
All toasts and sandwiches were served with their specially-brewed kopi (coffee) or a choice of teh (tea).

Hainanese Chicken Rice - The chicken is prepared
in traditional Hainanese methods
which involve the boiling of the entire chicken
in a pork and chicken bone stock,
reusing the broth over and over
and only topping it up with water when needed.

Horlicks is a malted milk powder that you mix with warm milk to make a drink.
It is wheatier, and less malty-tasting than other such drinks.
All in all, I would say we enjoyed hanging out at Toast Box. The food is great and the service is satisfying. We'll probably come back to try the laksa and nanyang coffee.

Toast sets are still affordable ranging from P145-P170 consisting of a toast/sandwich of your choice, coffe or tea and two soft-boiled eggs.
